Nature conservation standards for the production of biomass

nature conservation standards for the production Of biomass

Executing Organisation:

German Federal Nature Conservation Agency

Duration:

01.10.2007 bis 31.01.2009

Project Responsibility:

Prof. Dr. Rainer Luick

Project Partners:

UFZ Leipzig

Associates:
  • Dr. Florian Wagner
  • Dipl.-Ing. Kolja Schümann
Characterisation:

This project plans to methodically capture the chances and risks associated with the production of biomass under different geographical and microeconomic conditions with a view to nature conservation aspects. Furthermore a code of practice consisting of recommendations for a nature-compatible cultivation respecting the legal framework will be developed. The scheme also intends to reveal the need for action concerning statutory instruments to control the production of biomass and the possible composition of these instruments. Expected are results that help to enhance the Renewable Energies Law (EEG), the regulative quota for bio fuel sustainability, the good agricultural practice, the cross compliance requirements and voluntary instruments (i.e. agricultural environment programmes, nature conservation-by-contract) on federal level.
