Research Emphasis: Nature and Education



Nature and Education

Education has become a keyword in the modern post-industrial society. Knowledge and competence are no longer contained to the classical education system, the so called formal education.

Informal education and out-of-class experience are also highly important. "Global learning" and "Life-long learning" are recognized as necessary components for a common world responsibility and held as ever evolving objectives.

The divergence from purely knowledge oriented education to competently achieved diversified learning accesses new possibilities for all levels of society in the changing environment. According to the phrase "Education for sustainable development", (UN decade project) the classical environmental education is progressing towards a future oriented, diverse and broad layered, sustainable education initiative.

Projects in the field of so called "Forest pedagogic" and the changing field of "career and work pedagogic" are traditionally covered in the main course of study at forestry colleges. Through further development in the range of assignments and projects many diverse possibilities of nature oriented education become available.

Next to practical subjects, theoretical topics from societal politics to business economics are of great interest. The interdisciplinary cooperation with social science disciplines is explicitly desired for the enrichment of lessons, research and project development.
